itison Drive-In Movies is heading to Troon for the first time with outdoor screenings of Jaws, by the sea. Over 100,000 people have attended itison Drive-In Movies events to date, seeing classic movies brought to life in matching locations, and now Troon harbour is set for an Ayrshire to Amity Island transformation for sunset screenings of Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller, Jaws – with Americana themed matinees of Grease and early evening showings of Dirty Dancing on the world’s biggest mobile LED screen.

Anyone with hungry eyes can enjoy fresh gourmet cuisine from some Scotland’s best street food vendors who will be serving up ice cream, popcorn, gourmet burgers and BBQ grub, fresh wood fired pizzas and premium Scottish seafood.

itison’s popular car-aoke will be back for film lovers ready for a bit of summer lovin’ - as well as plenty of pre-film entertainment on-screen and on-location.

Enjoy the thrill of travelling in a brakevan hauled by one of our working steam locomotives along a short section of the former Dalmellington Iron Company’s main railway line.

View our extensive collection of steam and diesel locos and other items of rolling stock. Visit our Museum which houses items of narrow gauge rolling stock, photographic displays and railway memorabilia. View our working model steam railway, and there is even a model railway for the children to play with. Our Shop has many items at pocket money prices, to suit our younger visitors.

The Café serves teas, coffee, soft drinks and snacks all day during Steam Days. Free Car Park. Disabled access to most of the Centre, including the brakevan trips. SIRC is operated entirely by unpaid volunteer members of the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group, a charity registered in Scotland, No. SC 016127

BALLANTRAE SMUGGLERS’ FESTIVAL

Ballantrae’s Smugglers’ Festival, now in its fourth year, is inspired by stories about smugglers from Ballantrae and the surrounding area in the 18th and 19th centuries.

This year’s festival is for the whole family and will include “The Landing of the Contraband” on the evening of Friday 5 August involving the ship La Malouine, small boats, and horses and carts. Will the Exciseman try to spoil the plans? The “Strongman Competition”, on the evening of Saturday 6 August involves teams of children and adults from the village and surrounding communities.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Back by popular demand, Guaranteed to be the most colourful, fun 5k you’ll ever do! You don't have to run - you can walk, skip, jump, dance or even hop the distance - whatever takes your fancy. Just be prepared for a kaleidoscope of colour to rain down over you and your fellow runners, leaving you looking like a brightly- coloured rainbow.

Lots of entertainment to get you warmed up beforehand and even more afterwards, when you can sit back and enjoy your well-deserved burger! Registration fee, which includes a pristine (not for long!) white t-shirt, sunglasses and Colour Dash medal, is £20 for adults, £10 for under 16s and 4-5 year olds £5. All under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. Please note this event is not suitable for under 4's. Family ticket of two adults and two children costs £50. A minimum sponsorship of £50, but will be extremely grateful for any amount raised.

DRAGON BOAT CHARITY RACE

Largs Rotary Club will be hosting a charity Dragon Boat Race on the Largs waterfront on Saturday 3rd September 2016. Dragon boating is fun filled, adrenaline pumping and the fastest growing water sports activity in the UK.

Teams compete in Dragon Boats which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragons heads and tails. Dragon Boat racing is a great competitive sport and also a great spectator sport so come along and support your crew.

A day for all the family participants and spectators will have loads to do with lots of superhero games and challenges to try in the village, an assault course challenge and target practice - using paintballs guns, superhero stencils and a target to create your own superhero splatter art!

Registration starts at 9.30am and the day will wrap up about 4pm.
